...a real no longer used cockpit simulator donated by British Airways to the museum.
At that time,I have never been so close from my dream...but behind a security glass !
A close look make me realize that these panels look as mine.

...un véritable ancien simulateur offert au Musée par British Airways.
A cette époque,je n'avais jamais été aussi près de mon rêve...mais derrière une vitre de protection !
En y regardant de plus près,ces panneaux ressemblent aux miens.

AND THE WINNER IS.../ET LA GAGNANTE EST...

The Humbrol matt sea grey paint was an error ! Once again it was too clear.I selected a darker grey from Humbrol...it was too dark!
The fourth try was the ONE.The TS4 "german grey" spray from Tamiya is the perfect color.

La teinte matt sea grey de Humbrol était encore trop claire,la dark Tank grey trop sombre!
La quatrième tentative fût la bonne avec le "german grey" (n° TS4) de tamiya.

Again and again.../ Encore et encore...

I figure out a few weeks ago that the repaint of the panels I was so proud of it...does not match at all with the panels that cannot be repaint (autopilot or coming throttle quadrant for example!).
I have selected,what I thought was the more appropriate grey color,from car paints line !
Of course panels looked clean,but they did not have anymore that caracteristic 747 panels color.They were too clear!
Thanks to Alkit I looked for a more appropriate grey from modeling range... and found out the Matt sea grey color that seems perfect to paint my panels,again!
This long time job is about to start (and end I hope ) during summer...

Je me suis rendu compte,il ya quelque temps que la rénovation dont j'étais si fier avait un problème.La couleur que j'avais choisi était trop claire par rapport à l'originale.
Le gris que j'avais trouvé en bombe de peinture...pour voiture ne collait pas avec le gris des parties que je ne pouvais pas repeindre (le panneau du pilote automatique par exemple).
Alkit m'a conseillé de chercher parmi les peintures de maquettisme et c'est en effet dans ce secteur que j'ai trouvé le Gris mer mat.
Je vais donc profiter de l'été pour repeindre,encore, les panneaux.

These two VHF navigation control panels are almost completing the autopilot panel line (lighting control panels still missing at that time).

Ces deux panneaux de controle de navigation VHF complètent pratiquement la ligne du pilotage automatique (manquent encore à l'appel les deux panneaux de contrôle d'éclairage)

On this new part,the DME,I was unable to make indication numbers visible...

Sur ce nouvel instrument,il m'a été impossible de faire apparaitre les indicateurs.

Same case for this HF control part that will replace a bad condition one.
Just below a new part for overhead panel,the ADEU.

Même principe pour ce panneau de contrôle HF qui en remplacera un autre en mauvais état.
Juste en dessous,une nouvelle pièce pour le panneau supérieur, l'ADEU.

I am now on another way,trying to improve my cockpit by having some instruments replace with others in better condition or more appropriate.
These two electronic clocks will soon replace the classic ones.

J'aborde maintenant un nouvel aspect des chose,à savoir remplacer certains instruments par d'autres en meilleure condition ou plus appropriés.
Ces deux montres électroniques remplaceront ainsi prochainement les deux anciennes.

AT LAST / ENFIN

I hope that this new panel (selcal from a 747-200) will stop a four months dead calm time for my cockpit purchases !
J'espère que cette nouvelle pièce mettra fin aux quatre mois creux qui viennent de passer !

A NEW MODEL / UN NOUVEAU MODELE

As the Northwest,this is a 1:100 scale model.This is a 747 classic,my favorite version... and the Pan Am legend ...
Comme pour le Northwest,ce modèle est au 1/100 eme.C'est ma version préféré du 747.
Et les couleurs de la pan am,toute une légende !

At last...the fully restored panels.But it's only a new step!I have to work on some details,think about having some instruments replaced,get new parts...Next step,the throttle quadrant (I hope !).

Enfin...l'ensemble des panneaux restorés.Mais ce n'est qu'une étape !I faut que je peaufine quelqus détails,que je remplace certains instruments,que j'en achète d'autres...Prochaine étape (si tout va bien !) la console centrale.

Some parts were clean enough to keep the original color and a new paint would have hide the inscrptions.

les repeindre aurait masqué les inscripitions.

...and how it looks when repainted ! I was unable to find the correct boeing cockpit color.
The paint used is clearer than the original.As I wanted to keep the original inscriptions,you will notice at the bottom of the panel that I have to mask them before painting,and that causes a color difference between the old and the new one!

Il m'a été impossible de trouver la même couleur de cockpit que Boeing.Celle que j'ai utilisé est plus claire que l'original.Du coup la différence est visible lorsque j'ai masqué les inscriptions originelles du panneau et que j'ai peint autour (voir en bas du panneau) !

Each screw from instrument supports needed some new black paint...

Each advisory lights from annunciator panel has to be removed.

I started with the central engine panel.The glass part from each instrument had to be masked for painting.

THE RESTORATION BEGINS ! / LA RESTAURATION DEBUTE

From the the first day when I received the panels,I had in mind to restore them.If you look carrefully the first pictures,you will notice that the three panels had many time marks.
The main problem was to find the correct color paint.Then I have to remove all screws and instruments.

Dès la réception des panneaux,je savais qu'il me faudrait les restorer car plusieurs marques d'usure étaient visibles.Le problème était de trouver la bonne teinte de peinture et le temps nécessaire de retirer toutes les vis et les instruments.

After many weeks without any new item,I have had the opportunity (thank again Alkit) to get this overhead panel...from france.

Après plusieurs semaines creuses,j'ai pu trouver (en France !) un nouvel objet pour mon cockpit (une fois de plus grace à Alkit qui m'a prévenu). Il s'agit d'un panneau supérieur qui se situe entre les pilotes et le mécanicien navigant.
